Course Oversight: History of Text Technologies

Description

Composed via Prezi, this "text" explores Prezi's relationship with PowerPoint through the theoretical lens of accessibility, function, and authentication outlined in Dennis Baron's "From Pencils and Pixels." In juxtaposing Prezi with PowerPoint, this text demonstrates the ways in which Prezi is paradoxically associating itself with while simultaneously attempting to distance itself from PowerPoint. In addition, this text demonstrates an example of the deicity of technology, a term coined by Donald Leu, which refers to the ways in which people reappropriate technologies for uses that are at odds with their original design.

Unique Features

This text is an example of a Prezi that can standalone; that is, this Prezi doesn’t require an additive oral component that is common to and expected of “presentation texts.” As such, this text demonstrates how Prezi is different from PowerPoint and thus how Prezi is working to become more than “just” a presentation platform.
