The goal of this tailored health intervention is to increase the use of sun-protective behaviors in adolescents and college-aged students. This intervention includes a mobile application, a website, and a text/email reminder system to help reinforce sun-protective behaviors, such as using sunscreen. The mock-ups of our intervention incorporate technology (contributed by students from LIS) and persuasion theory (contributed by students from communication) to help increase the effectiveness and persuasiveness of our intervention and messages. This intervention is an example of interdisciplinary work and students from different areas coming together to create a product to help others.
Our tailored health intervention includes a logo designed in Adobe Fireworks, a mock-up of a mobile application and website developed using Balsamiq, and theoretical knowledge from the persuasion/ health informatics literature. Our intervention bridges technology, theory, and different disciplines in an effort to increase the effectiveness of a health intervention.
